St. Louis Entrepreneurs Raising Alarm about Frequent Healthcare Cyberattacks

St. Louis Entrepreneurs Raising Alarm about Frequent Healthcare Cyberattacks

Pacemakers are Vulnerable to Cyberattacks Pacemakers are Vulnerable to Cyberattacks

St. Louis, MO, April 9, 2018 – Alpine Security®, HIPAAComplete®, and Displays That Pay® are putting on a new webinar series focused on healthcare cybersecurity and how providers can protect patient data and medical devices from cyberattacks.

The April 11th, “Healthcare Hackers Webinar,” will review the history of disturbing breaches of protected patient data and medical devices and discuss solutions to prevent similar breaches. These breaches have resulted in millions of dollars in fines, lost revenue, and reduced patient loyalty.

TheDarkOverlord sells patient data for Bitcoin

The hacking group known as TheDarkOverlord has remained active and made its presence known in a series of high-profile breaches including local small medical practices in the St. Louis area. The same group has remained active with multiple attacks, the most recent being 16,428 patient records Sept 2017 from SMART (“Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Therapy”) in Massachusetts.

Most Dangerous Hacked Medical Devices

Hacked medical devices could be the next big security nightmare. There are currently between 10 and 15 connected devices per hospital bed in the United States, many of which are vulnerable to attack. Anything that connects wirelessly to other equipment can be compromised, with historically low levels of security on medical instruments and embedded devices already linked to a number of security attacks. Title: Healthcare Hackers Webinar – Best Practices for Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing

Date: Wednesday, April 11, 2018 – 11:00 AM Central

Registration: http://alpinesecurity.healthcarehackerswebinar.com

Speakers:

  • Christian Espinosa, CEO, Alpine Security
  • Gerald Caussade, CEO, HIPAAComplete

The April webinar will focus on how to protect patient data using “vulnerability and penetration testing” techniques and technology.

“Ransomware and stolen PHI are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to cyberattacks in healthcare. The growing number of vulnerable networked medical devices, from pacemakers to MRI Systems, is great cause for alarm,” stated Christian Espinosa, CEO, Alpine Security

“It’s easy to feel helpless because of the number of hacking incidents in the news. However, it’s easier to secure a small facility because of fewer Internet connections and less hardware to secure. Mr. Espinosa and I will go over affordable and easy solutions that make the hackers look elsewhere,” says Gerald Caussade, CEO, HIPAAComplete.

The webinar series is being produced by Mark Rice, CEO/Founder of Displays That Pay®, LLC. “We produced one of the first webinars focused on HIPAA compliance with Omtool and Xerox Corporation. Now that we partnered with HIPAAComplete, we again have the opportunity to educate the healthcare community and add the cybersecurity edge to the story with the expertise from Christian Espinosa at Alpine Security,” says Rice, a veteran webinar producer with eighteen years’ experience.
